Just a short note by way of explanation on why I haven’t posted lately. I went on a camping trip. All was great. On the next to the last day, it started to rain. Really wasn’t much of a problem. It was off and on again so we went to the wildlife refuge and had a wonderful time. It took us several hours to go the 4.2 mile drive as we kept stopping for photos. We got out, visited the wooden duck blind, took lots more photos, and even took the 1.5-mile hike.
But, I guess we should have paid a bit more attention to the weather. We got back to camp and half way through cooking dinner, it was obvious that the rain was no longer on and off but rather it was coming down continuously. We didn’t bring the canopies or the tarps this trip since the forecast was for hot sunny days and warm nights.
I gave up and drove into the nearest town and bought tarps and another canopy but before I could return the sky just opened up and it was pouring. We got everything set up and since we DID manage to bring a propane heater, we started drying out stuff and feeling not so miserable anymore, we finished out our last full night. It continued to rain all night.
Next morning the rain was still coming down. Although we weren’t scheduled to leave until after lunch, we decided to go ahead and leave when we got up. The ground was saturated and muddy all around. And with all the tarps and extra guy wires everywhere, walking around trying to pack up was a bit of an obstacle course.
During this, I managed to step over and around the guy wires at the hump at the base of a huge tree but then lost my footing in the mud and fell. My wrist slammed into the ground and the pain was so incredible I was fighting nausea. No job, no insurance so no doctors. I got it together enough to drive the three hours home but did have to make stops to get out and walk around a bit.
For the next couple of weeks, I lived on pain pills. Ibuprophen mostly but I also had some codeine of my mom’s left over. Finally, I decided I needed a brace of some kind. We always kept everything from when the kids got hurt but the arm one we had was child sized and wouldn’t work. So I asked at my local drug store and a pharmacist helped me find a brace that would fit.
That helped a lot. And then yesterday afternoon, I realized that my wrist felt better. Today I have almost full range of motion again. It is still very weak and still hurts but it is SO much better than it was. It is my first day without wearing the brace since I bought it. This much typing is bothering it. It is the twisting that it doesn’t like. So I will have to end this here so I can give it a rest.
